CHICAGO’S FAMED SECOND CITY COMES TO SALMON

On January 15, Chicago’s legendary comedy theatre The Second City will appear at Salmon Valley Center, 7PM.  The performance will feature some of the best sketches, songs, and improvisations from The Second City’s forty-five plus year history.

Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy world’s best and brightest.  Their alumni list reads like a who’s who of American comedy, as it includes: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Tim Meadows, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Horatio Sanz, Ryan Stiles and countless others.

Not only will an evening with The Second City provide audiences with the chance to see comedy stars in the making, but they will also have the opportunity to see absolutely hilarious satire and cutting-edge improvisation.  No topic or subject matter is off limits for The Second City.  If your parents asked you not to speak about it at the dinner table, chances are it will be made fun of in an evening with The Second City.

Tickets for The Second City are $18, $15 for Salmon Arts Council Members and can be purchased at Ponderosa Gallery, Idaho Adventures, and SAC Office.  For more information call 756-2987. www.secondcity.com

The fabulous Pine Leaf Boys hail from the soggy prairies and bayous of southwest Louisiana and play the traditional Cajun and Creole music of that region with a youthful vitality that gives an extra kick to that already vibrant music. All twenty-something’s, the Boys are utterly steeped in Louisiana roots, but are already prolific writers and innovators who love to mess with things. Band members Wilson Savoy, Cedric Watson, Jon Bertrand, Drew Simon, and Blake Miller are skillful multi-instrumentalists and often switch and trade-off during their dynamic performances. Transitioning from acoustic sets to dance sets, they present their music in multiple configurations such as twin fiddle, duo accordion/fiddle, bass, drum, and even stomping beats.

Don’t miss this cabin fever curing dance party with Grammy-nominated Pine Leaf Boys—the best new Cajun band in a very long time! www.pineleafboys.com

Tom Rush is a gifted musician and performer whose shows offer a musical celebration...a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been, can be and will become. Rush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the 60’s and the renaissance of the 80’s and 90’s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists.

Rush continues to draw crowds of all ages by reinventing his prolific repertoire. His shows are filled with rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues.
